Project Connect is the CapMetro expansion initiative

https://capmetro.org/project-connect

IMO this expansion plan seems great from a transit perspective, and seems like a strong step in the direction of Austin maturing the right way from boomtown into a bonafide major city (not sure about tax impact). Having a rail connection to the airport would be an amazing amenity as well that I’ve used several times in DC, Chicago and Atlanta and makes air travel so much more convenient

Austin/Travis County voters have said no to light rail multiple times now. Our dissenting voices are ignored every election it seems, because they just keep bringing it back.

Ah so most likely it won’t pass. What a waste of time on their part with all of the planning and studies done

I suspect a plan *will* eventually pass - the city banks on new young residents to change minds on this matter. They’ll keep pushing until they get their way regardless of final cost and disruption to the city.

You are correct.
Then in a few years the same voters will whine online about their gawd awful property taxes.

I agree with this but one thing that may help is CODENext4 ... I could realistically see both plans complimenting each other...

Millennials may have access to smaller homes which won’t be as burdensome on property tax.
Denser developments will make transit more efficient
