Not sure if I can ask this here, but what’s a better place to take your family to eat when visiting Austin. Terry Blacks or Salt Lick? Also is the Round Rock Salt Lick just as good as the Driftwood location?

Never been to the RR Salt Lick, but can't imagine the venue is as good as Driftwood.

Which BBQ you prefer is a preference thing.

RR is not as good as driftwood. I havent had blacks in austin, but there are plenty of good places in austin.

Ive only had blacks in lockhart and didnt think it was good at all. But somehow people love lockhart bbq.

The Round Rock Salt Lick I will not go to. Nothing like the original.

Blacks in Lockhart is probably the best in that town (which doesn't really live up to its reputation as a 'cue Mecca, in my opinion), but I haven't had the Blacks in Austin.

If I were taking my family for 'cue in Austin, I'd take them to Stiles Switch. Better yet, out to Georgetown to Jimmy Vega's.

Terry Black’s is on a different level than Salt Lick. It’s top-tier, and that would be my recommendation. The Driftwood Salt Lick is a nice experience but you wouldn’t go there just for the food.

Plus, Terry Black’s can be nicely combined with a walking trip around Ladybird Lake, even downtown.

We always take out of town visitors to the Salt Lick in Driftwood. It's a pretty drive and a fun experience to pack up a cooler of beer & sit outside and drink some while waiting for a table. Also, the Salt Lick has had a lot of exposure on Food & Travel shows, so the name recognition for out of towners is a plus. They often report after their trip that someone asked if they went there.

Neither.

Go to Schmidt Family or Opie's in Spicewood.

Driftwood is a good experience but Terry Black's is definitely better. (Note: Terry Black's means Terry Black's on Barton Springs. Blacks in Lockhart is something else as are Black's locations in Austin.)

also right now you can preorder franklin and just pick it up without much advance planning. This is probably the best time to get franklin bbq.
