Someone on another forum here made a weird comment to me that the quality of RRISD education was due to the children of UT professors living in the district.

Seems unlikely to me, because all the parents I know are either in the tech sector, local government, or teaching in the district themselves. I am not saying that zero professors live here, but I would think that if it was enough to artificially inflate the quality of education (test numbers etc) someone like me who is active in the school we attend, and the district as a whole, I would have met some professors!

For context, this was in regards to a comment I made about the children in RRISD being ahead in math, in comparison to my son, when we moved here.

Anyway, what do you think?

Personally, I would think if I was a UT professor, I would be living in Eanes, or my kids would be in private school and we could live closer to campus!

Hmmm...well, having worked at UT as an academic advisor and then as a graduate student, I didn't know of any professors with kids in RRISD. Although, most of my professors either had grown children or very young children not yet in school!

I start working as an English teacher in the fall in RRISD, so I'll let you know if I hear of many students with professor parents!

The combination of a good income and proximity to campus would lead me to believe that the RRISD would be behind Eanes and the AISD as far as number of UT Professors living in th district. Tarrytown (Austin High) has always had a large number of UT Professors living in the neighborhood.

There are some UT profs in Round Rock, especially newer profs. The two that I know in RRISD homeschool their kids. Lots of UT profs in AISD and Eanes and private schools. Even though UT is huge and the number of faculty are large there are not enough with children of school age kids to make any impact on the district level.

My kids have many friends whose parents are UT professors- they're in a private school and live in central Austin/Westlake. RR would be a hike to get to UT.

I knew a previous head of the communications department...his kids went to LISD before he was recruited away. Another prof raised his kids in LISD and after retiring is now the gifted teacher at my dd's middle school. It makes sense that most live closer in with fewer scattered in the suburban districts.

Unfortunately it did not work out with St. Andrew's...but everything happens for a reason because I was offered a great position MUCH closer to home for more money, so all's well that ends well!
