I've been reading a lot on Austin and see that it appears to be an eco friendly and dog friendly community. I do have children and am looking for a very open/hip trendy area that's affordable. A friend recommended Austin because they went to school there and said it was a very neat place.
Any advice?
I am limited on funds and can't afford a whole lot.

Can you help with family friendly areas that are safe and affordable?
I don't even really know where to start looking.

I have seen posts that said to stay away from the east side, then ones claiming its better now.

What about the burbs like Pfluger and Round Rock.. North Austin?

Thanks in advance for the help.

PS I am looking to stay well below 900 for a 2bdrm.
I am not a college student at this time, again looking for family friendly, dog friendly hip area.

Round Rock has an off leash dog park. I don't know if I'd classify it as "hip", but it's family and dog friendly and there's enough to do to keep you busy.

Look at garage apartments in Clarksville. The hippest trendiest area most likely, besides right downtown on 4th or 2nd.
