I think Austin City lights seems like a better fit than Scofield. Its closer (about 5 miles according to mapquest) and looks really nice. I am married, we are in our late 20s. I am trying not to break the bank on the apts - trying to save $$ which is IMPOSSIBLE to do in NY and one of the major reasons we are leaving. We are looking for a 2bed/2bath with $1400 really being the most that I want to spend.

Thanks for all your help.

Hey belliot30 - do you know if anything is within walking distance of the Austin City lights complex and if it is a safe area?

Thanks!

Karen

I found a website called mynewplace(dot com) that gives you a maps and pictures and prices and everything.

I searched under "westgate, Austin" and also "78759" and found lots of promising things.

My friends at City Lights are outdoors kind of people, biking everywhere. You can walk to some areas, sure, but I know they bike to Central Market and the farmers market. Area is fine, though as you venture closer to 35 you get less safe feeling. Lots of shopping is around there though, with new stores popping up on 35 right around there.

I looked at the google street view - that was a good idea! I guess i was not really sure how quickly it got rural looking outside of "downtown" This is one of those things I am going to have to get used to I guess. In NY, you have to go 30 miles at least out of the city to feel like you aren't in a city anymore. Thanks for the advice.
