I may be in need of a cab to pick up my daughter from school which is less than and mile from my home.

I'm really embarrassed to call the yellow cab company and ask them if this will work..
So anyone...can I call them..
I calculated the estimated fare and it comes around 4.40..for one way...

Don't know why not, but I don't typical have a use for a cab, so I don't know. There may be some other fees involved, I suppose (minimum charge or something...).

Call the cab company!! They will figure it out. The key thing is, how old is this child and will the school release them to a cab driver? Elementary or younger, this is probably a no go. Can you contact a classmate?

My question was..will the cab company oblige for such a short distance?

Again, probably, but there may be a minimum fee. I am not sure how Austin does its fares, but some cities have zones, etc. to base fees on.

If it is less than a mile, is it walkable? Or strollerable (not sure on age)?

If its less than a mile, sounds like a nice walk to me. You may get almost a 2 mile bit of exercise, and you get lots of talking time as you walk home with your child. My experience is that really good talking can happen while walking. Not much talking in the back of a cab.

If its less than a mile can you just walk and pick her up? What about the bus? If not dont feel embarrassed, its their job and im sure they have taken people shorter distances.

Of course, the cab will agree.
Go to their website...estimate the fare...and even book it online.
Yellow Cab Austin and Round Rock taxi service

You can also setup a recurring service with them.

Always be with your kid and do not let her drive the cab alone though.
