Well, the kids had a blast there There were some interactive things there and they even got to play at the little playground there. Even getting to be so close to the lion was something else! Even for us grown ups They had the Brazos exhibit open and they seemed to enjoy that. Lots of wildlife in that one. They fed the fish at the end of the day too. I'd give that zoo a thumbs up.

I may be late here (for the original post) but another great place to take children for free is the City of Austin Nature Center. It's across the street from Zilker Park and they have some really great exhibits, birds of prey, and various rescued animals (including a cool bobcat), along with a Dino pit where our children can dig up pretend dinosaur bones and identify which one it is. Really a great day! Donations are accepted....it's a great trip and highly recommend it. There is also an museum exhibit at the UT campus for dinosaurs, completely free! Enjoy!

Easily! My daughter @ 4 yrs old at the time went with us. My wife went the easy route up. I had my daughter go up with me towards the left of the parking lot and when up through the boulders. Of course she stood still on each boulder untill I reached out to grab her.
For the most part once when got to the main rock itself. She climbed it!

It is a good time to go since the granite rock will not be hot. Please take camel-bak for your little ones. They will use it.

Even an old hound dog made it!

When you guys mention the Austin Zoo, do you mean the one in Dripping Springs? I'm looking for somewhere to take my 2 yr. old twins for their birthday.

The Austin Zoo is off Circle Drive heading out towards Dripping Springs, but it is still in Austin.
