As a single thirtysomething male that may be moving to Austin soon, I am just curious about local thoughts on the subject.

~thanks in advance!

The ratio is pretty bad - like 2 guys for every 1 girl. This place is a total sausage party. I wouldn't recommend it.

Um, I think jobert may be trying to keep the ratio in his favor.

According to the latest data, I believe it's 51/49 male/female as of 2006.

Actually, If I never read anything about that 51/49 ratio, I would never have thunk it.......pretty much any event has a liberal mix of both sexes, and, as you walk around, you see pretty much the same mix of sexes everywhere as anyplace else.....certainly nothing like places palbably skewed, like Alaska or some of the mining states out west....Here is exactly what I do see out here....seems like everyone is either coupled up or GETTING coupled up here.......lots of folks holding hands, even in grocery stores....not sure if thats a reflection of southern mores, or the fact that there ARE less women here and they get pulled into relationships more readily because of that disparity, or not.......I think that explains everything....that you don't notice it, but you do in the fact that the ones that ARE here get snapped up fast....

Now, let's get specific because you say you are 30-something.......most single women in Austin are in their 20's...if you are early 30's, should be no prob....later 30's, you might find the availability a bit youngish......by 30, pretty much the lion's share of women are married/attached in Austin......again,
southern mores and such I strongly believe add to this....Austin is more a reflection of the south than people give it credit for.......only a fool would think otherwise, and simply does not understand the social dynamics that exist on a deeper level in Austin........

To sum, for a male 30-something, Austin is not a hotbed of availability like the Northeast cities, along with Chicago.......however, it's not Alaska either......to put it one last way, it IS a challenge, but enough females ARE here to be successful if you are perseverent in your quest out here.

I tried to get as close to the actual reality as I could here, not being discouraging or encouraging..hope this helps...

pretty much your area code - 90040 - has a higher ratio of females than any I've seen in Austin, unless your talking about areas around the UT campus.
