Is there a place in town we can try a Sonoran or Mexican hot dog?

I did a google search and found a Houston Press article about a place in Houston that sells them. It's called Taqueria Monterrey and it's on I 45 and Garland. I didn't check to see if there is a website though. It (the hot dog) also goes under the name Salchicha Rioja. I didn't see anywhere in Austin or Central Texas that sells them, but that doesn't mean some little snack truck or taco trailer doesn't have them.

I did another google search and found that there is more than one Taqueria Monterrey. Who knows whether they are related or not, but the one from the article is on 7009 Garland, right off of I 45 near Pasadena on one side of the Freeway and Hobby Airport on the other. It's actually not too far from Clear Lake where my mom lives May have to check it out myself when I visit my mom next time. Of course, it would be a road trip because it would take about 2.5-3 hrs. to get there, but if you planned it as part of a day trip and did some sight seeing in Seabrook/Galveston.......

I find it hard to believe that there isn't one food truck (I love the food trucks) that sells it here in Austin- at least i hope so. Thanks for the google...

You're welcome. Yeah, if they're in Houston then more than likely they are around here somewhere too. Maybe look under Salchicha Rioja as well.

None in Austin that I'm aware of.

I'd heard about these and last time I was in Phoenix, I couldn't find one. There was one place in a strip mall that advertised them but it was closed the day I was in that area.

I do make my own Texified version: grilled bacon wrapped pencil link, chili, refriend beans, cheese, pico de gallo, and avocado slices. It is quite wonderful.

That's definitely different. Doesn't sound like it's too hard to make. Bacon wrapped around a hot dog fried up in a skillet and then stuffed into a bolillo roll along with some typical taco toppings.

I used to buy bacon-wrapped dogs from street vendors in Tijuana, 2 for a buck, back when I was in college in San Diego.(mid-80's)
They were good. Even if my friends teased me that the meat was cat, rat, or dog or something, I didn't care. If cat tastes that good, why not! Besides, I probably had just had about a dozen shots of tequila, so I wasn't too concerned.
