Can anyone recommend a nice place to eat near the Paramount Theater on Congress, downtown? Taking the hubby to the Paramount for this birthday and thought it would be nice to get something to eat down by there. Does NOT have to be expensive/fancy (in fact, prefer that it not be). Any nice bistros in the area?

Moonshine might be a possibility.

Moonshine is a really nice atmosphere for the price. Roaring Fork is right next door to the Paramount, but expensive. I'm partial to The Belmont - Cuisine, just a couple of blocks away on 6th. On Thursdays and Sundays they have specials, but otherwise on the moderate (slightly expensive) side.

Bess Bistro (Sandra Bullock's restaurant) is also close by. It has a couple of expensive things, but many items are surprisingly reasonable.

A short walk from the Paramount is a Schotzsky's, Quiznos...there's also Ruth Chris' Steak house on 6th if you wish to walk a little further and spend a little more.

Really? Schlotzky's and Quiznos as nice places? Ruth Chris' is a nice suggestion, but the other two?

Here's a map of the theater location and you can see all of the labeled buildings in the general area. Do some quick research and find what meets your needs.

We went to a show at the Paramount recently with another couple and meet them for an early dinner in the Roaring Fork Bar. They have an abbreviated menu with very reasonable prices that was very good.

I highly recommend the Roaring Fork in the Stephen F. Austin Hotel, just a few doors down on Congress. My wife and I love that place for dinner and we do often go there after hitting the Paramount. In particular, you must order a serving of the Green Chile Mac & Cheese. Pair this with on of their cabernets and it's total heaven. Also, we like their guacamole and chips, which are good with a margarita.

It's owned by another restaurant, so the link I'm posting here is a little confusing. (I hate, hate, hate Flash websites, especially those that don't have a way to link to a specific page.) You have to click on he Roaring Fork link on the left of the page under Our Restaurants.
Welcome to Eddie V's
Right now they're promoting their new Roaring Fork north location, but don't worry, the one just down from the Paramount is still there.

Annies - a few blocks down on Congress has some of the best cocktails in Austin, and a limited, though good and inexpensive Happy Hour menu. It is also a very handsome room!
