I was biking down near Buda/South Austin and when looking anywhere north I see this brown haze. Looks really high elevation, but can't be brown clouds? It's a very clear day too.

I looked south and it's crystal clear. So is that brown haze, air pollution? There's a slight south wind today. It seems to reach from Lakeway all the way over to Manor, not just downtown.

I saw on the news earlier today that there is a controlled burn going on. Didn't pay much attention as to where exactly, but that might explain what you're seeing.

It's what the locals perennially pass off as "the forest fires in Mexico"

This was much more than a smoke cloud. This covered the entire horizon 150 degrees wide from NW to NE. It's hard to believe it could be just smoke from a controlled burn. And it's brown, not gray.

Don't know, it was too cold up here! If the air is bad like that, my daughters asthma would probably act up, but nothing going on so far...(cross my fingers )

I talk about Denver alot, but what you said reminded me of Denver.

When you are driving into Denver, it is so picturesque and lovely. Snow capped mountains as far as the eye can see. Sweeping vistas. It's really inspring. Then, you come over the hill that leads down in the Denver basin, AND THERE'S THIS hoooorible disgusting brown cloud nestled above the city. It looks completely out of place amongst the setting and is very jarring.

Makes me feel bad for the people who are breathing it into their lungs everyday.
