Lockhart does have awesome BBQ. Just remember that most of the places are forkless, so don't bother to ask for one..........

Lockhart is pretty good!! But to me the best is to the West!! Opies in Spicwood and Coopers in Llano! Now I have eaten at about every BBQ joint for 100 miles around Austin and it would depend on what you favorite things are. I like allot of them but they are very very different depending on what direction you go. We have to the NE and SE,W and then there is Salt Lick which is it's own kind of thing to the South. In the city maybe Iron Works or Rib King.

Go to Rudys and call it a day. At the end, you didn't have to drive far for it and it's as good and better. I had Lockharts / Coopers.......... and even I just stuck with Rudys. Best thing of all, it does not cost much and you can feed a family cheap and not break the bank. My family tummies are full

Rudy's is mediocre BBQ foisted upon the masses. If you want to stay local, go to Ruby's or Johnny T's instead.

My husband likes Rudy's, but his all time favorite is also Ruby's. I LOVE the Iron Works ribs, the best!

Black's in Lockhart was realllllly good when we were there about a month ago. I'm talking best brisket I've ever had. I've noticed it all depends on your luck some times when it comes to BBQ, whether the pit guy has been mastering his meats. 2nd best brisket was a Rudy's in Waco. Was unlike the Rudy's I go to in Austin - I assume it was just extra good that day or I was lucky with some of the best cuts.
