Damn it gives me a warm glow to find my brother who as a Kiwi joined the 6RAR for a bit of a scrap in South East Asia in the late sixties will be getting no federal or state aid for the flooding because he came home for a couple of years in the late nineties.
Makes my nephew residing in that comfortable country of Afghanistan proud of the country he was born in.
Still Kiwis should not expect much else should they even after forty years of tax paying.
I wonder if immigrants to Australia from other countries who have done nothing for it and have just arrived will be getting a bit more help ?
Hes not getting flood assistance because he went back to NZ for a couple years in 90's? Does he live and own a house in Australia, in a designated flood area?
If so hes doing something wrong, I know 2 home owners of the top of my head who are hear on tempory resident visas (waiting on pernament residence visas, so they are not eligable for centrelink benefit payments) and have recieived a $1000 flood assistance payment already.

Ah that is the point, Kiwis of course do not need any visa to move to Aus, same applies to Aussies coming to NZ with one exception, when people need help in a disaster area they get it regardless if they are Kiwis or not.
Does he have Australian citizenship or just residency?
Does not apply to Kiwis, we can move to Aus and work there with no visa needed.
Same applies to those whose shackles clang when they move to NZ.
No not a Aussie citizen, he is a Aussie war vet.
