Queensland's new LNP government have restricted surrogacy to married couples, thus effectively discriminating against gay and lesbians (who cannot marry).
The same government has defunded "Healthy Communities", a health organisation aimed at preventing the spread of HIV and homophobia in the community. It has also removed state-sanctioned civil ceremonies for gay couples.
I moved up to Qld in 92, just after the apocalypse... and heard horror stories.
No wonder those same people are calling the current Queensland 'Joh-Burg'...

I guess it's more what I have seen and experienced in my time up here. Mainly in the 'old days'. The police bashings, the kidnapping of 'Don', a 4ZZZ journo (who had a police revolver stuck in his mouth) and his resulting suicide, the CIB setup in an industrial area on Vulture St.. The mounted police attacking festival goers in the mid 90s at a peaceful festival.. Nasty times.
Australia is the only western democracy on earth that doesn't have a bill of rights or charter of rights, so we don't really have human rights here and some people think the status quo is fine, we need to become a republic and change the flag and get a bill of rights!

Except for the UK. Shock horror, they've been doing OK. In fact you'll find most bill of rights are little more than pieces of legislation.

You'll find that the UK has a Bill of Rights from 1689. Not as well known as the American one but it has one nonetheless. Part of it's interpretation has survived into Australian common law.
Quick question: can one be against the redefinition of marriage and not be "homophobic"? Just curious. Thanks
