True... But many states do not charge salex tax on necessary items like food, clothing, shoes, etc.
Some states have no sales tax at all.

They're exempt. So there's no tax on them. It matters not whether the tax is included in the price or quoted separately.

45 out of 50 do. So much of the US do.
Several of those 45 do not charge tax on many items such as shoes and clothing.

If one is not planning an imminent visit to Oz, I don't see why comparing prices today is doing for the op.The AUD could go down or up..one never knows, when I moved to Australia I did not find it too dear whe the USD was hgh, my last visit, I cried.
