How do you say it?

I'm for "shiraz" but only when it's an Aussie grape.

Me asking for an Australian gewurztraminer has caused a few giggles at Dan Murphy's.

Shi-rahz

See-rah

But Australians don't use Syrah unless it's for export to the US or they're utter tossers. How did you pronounce Gewurtz?

Agree with the varietal labeling. As an FYI it's really only the lesser varietal that gets labeled Syrah from Australian wineries as Australian Shiraz tends to be a little more full bodied than Syrah from other regions (except South Africa).

Wineries in the Barossa probably produce the best Australian Shiraz, a combination of age of the vines and climate.
