nursing questions for nz.landers (home, employment, theatre)

my wife is a ( crna ) certified registered nurse anesthetist here in the u.s. we were thinking of a move to nz.. but have heard that nz. does not use nurse anesthetist ,that they only use doctors for anesthesia. info is hard to find, could anyone shed some light on this subject. thank you.

Training — Australian and New Zealand College of Anaesthetists - New Zealand

Hi there, as far as I am aware, nurses in this country do not work in anaesthesia because that is a specialist job.
The website above may be helpful. New Zealand is closely linked with Australia for health training such as in clinical coding and a lot of our nurses go to Australia to get practical training following their graduation. Employment in the nursing field is tight just now so think very carefully before moving to New Zealand for work. Has your wife seen this website?

Just an extra note because I have worked as a medical transcriptionist. New Zealand follows British English and there are quite a few differences of spelling in the medical field as you are probably aware. For general usage New Zealand often allows both British or American spelling, for example, program or programme, but in journalism, law, and health fields the usage of English Language is a lot more strict and will always follow British English. We do not have nurse anesthetists in NZ. We call our physicians anesthetists and we don't use the term anesthesiologist.

Regarding the UK/US English thing - don't worry too much - it's more interchangeable in the north than in the southern regions. For example - one will hear OR more than 'theatre' in Auckland and not too much OR down south.
