Brisbane will be selected to host the olympics just for the fact that there’s no other bid lol. I think it’s great for Australia but it seems that not well “established” cities (on a global scale) go downhill after hosting the olympics or they have little benefit. For example Montreal, Barcelona, Atlanta, Houston etc. What’s your opinion?

What are you talking about? Houston has never hosted the Olympics. But it and Atlanta (1996 Olympics) have both exploded in growth and international prominence.
Now some places appear to have gone downhill since they hosted, including Sochi, Sarajevo and Athens. No one can say the Olympics are a cause of this, however.

I think its great! Melbourne was first, then Sydney, and now Brisbane. I remember what a great job Sydney did in 2000, and like The Opera House really helped give the city world exposure. I have never been to Brisbane, but my brother, and the woman next store have, and both say it is their favorite city in Australia. They both liked that it was also close to the Gold and Sunshine Coasts. I am looking forward as we in Los Angeles will be celebrating our 3rd Olympics. Not that we need any more world exposure, but they are using it as a catalyst to spend billions more on public transportation, and billions to get rid of all these homeless people. They are starting now, and getting rid of all the homeless DTLA, Venice Beach, all the parks etc.

You are correct. Both Atlanta and Houston are wealthy boom towns, with very high GDP. Houston never had the Olympics, and really didn't need it, because of all the massive corporate wealth. I think the Olympics didn't help or hurt Atlanta as it would have prospered regardless. The middle and upper middle class have huge beautiful homes in both cities.
I live about 3km from the GABBA which will be the main stadium, We already have good existing bus routes to the stadium from our house, and I am sure its only going to get better if the bid is successful, an underground rail station is already been constructed right next to the stadium, as part of a pre-existing infrastructure development.
It should be pointed out its is a south east Queensland bid, Brisbane will be the center of it of course, however events will certainly be held on The Gold Coast using the infrastructure from the recent commonwealth games they held, the Sunshine Coast and possibly even Toowoomba will also be holding events which will take a bit of the strain away from Brisbane itself.

Though I cannot say I am overly excited about it.
That will be awesome to showcase the GABBA to the world. The combination of Brisbane, The Gold Coast, and The Sunshine Coast is hard to beat. I think visitors will take in the many sights like Bindi Irwin's famous Australia Zoo.

True my bad. Houston never did. I was supposed to write Munich.
I think the fact that the Olympics was awarded to the only city that made a serious bid, and that city was Brisbane (Brisbane!), says about as much as you need to know about the decline of the Olympics.
My understanding is that, at the moment, most of the infrastructure is existing so hopefully they won't have the same issues as some other smaller cities that have hosted the Olympics.
I think the Olympics is probably in a long decline anyway.
I just hope we do not have COVID restrictions to worry about in 2032, would be a bit of pain having to sit at home and watch the Olympics when you are within walking distance of the main stadium.

I hope you're joking, dan!
