On Friday, July 3, at a BBQ dinner hosted by the Stockcar Racing League (SRL), Larry Collins made the announcement that Spears Manufacturing, a long-time sponsor of stock car racing on the west coast, signed on to become the SRL Southwest Tour series title sponsor. For those that are familiar with the SRL and the Spears name, this was exciting news. Here's a link to an article about the announcement:
SPEARS MANUFACTURING SIGNS ON AS SRL TITLE SPONSOR
The announcement was made the night before the second race of the three race "tri-holiday" series at Madera Speedway, part of the 10 race SRL schedule for 2009.
For those that have been around touring series racing on the west coast, the Southwest Tour is a well known race series. Originally sanctioned by NASCAR to promote competition between the best drivers on local short tracks, it is now sanctioned by the SRL, and provides an opportunity for some of the best short track drivers to compete against each other at a variety of tracks, primarily in California. The remainder of the 2009 season promises to be exciting, and the line up for 2010 looks to be even more interesting, if there is any truth to some of the rumors that I've heard.
