My husband has a 97 Chevy Blazer. Out of nowhere tonight his gas pedal is stuck. Every time he starts the engine, it automatically idles high. He had to hold his foot on the brakes while driving. What is making this happen and how do we fix it?

Are you talking about the accelerator pedal down by the brake? Need more info... is the actual pedal itself going to the floor all by itself?

Sounds like its something with the computer controlled fuel injection... something has gone haywire it sounds like. Hopefully someone here will have more info.

lol Either that or he is just girlie and likes to decorate his truck.

Seriously, take it to a shop. I probably wouldn't even drive it in if he is having to drive while riding the brake.

Let me guess. The car idles really high and will accelerate on its own to a point, but it's not running away from you like a Toyota nor is it really doing anything else odd?

Idle Air Control Valve. I would almost guarantee it. I've had this part go bad in a couple of cars and that's always what it does.

It's a '97....so it's probably just a stuck throttle linkage. Lift the hood, remove the air cleaner, and push the rod back to the idle position. Spray liberally with WD40 or some similar lubricant.

Sometimes the throttle body gets all gunked up causing the butterfly valves to get jammed. Take off the intake and look in there.

spray some silicone lube on the linkage both inside the car and under the hood and see if it clears up

imagine this.. a NON DRW engine with a stuck throttle. I thought this could not happen unless it was a drive by wire system??

To the op. Its a throttle cable on the Blazer. Most likely a frayed cable or it just need lubrication.. Open the hood and follow the cable to the throttle body and thats where your problem is most likely
