Chevy announces pricing and all that jazz and there's no thread here about it?

Cliff's:
- $40,000 MSRP
- $350/month, 36 month lease w/ $2,500 down
- 40 mile electric range, additional 260 miles under electric power generated from a gas engine

Net price is closer to $33K after Uncle Sam subsidizes your purchase with another bailout, I mean, $7,500 tax credit. Assuming the Volt is recharged overnight from a confirmed renewable energy supply (as opposed to the more common coal plant), the 40 mile range should cover most commuters' daily needs. Shame that's only 13% of the vehicle's total range per "charge." The other 87% of the Volt's range will be made possible through a gas engine acting as as generator.

It's no secret that I despise GM, but seriously? The global economy is in the toilet, millions of Americans are unemployed, and the best thing GM can come up with to demonstrate their "renewed" business acumen and attention to the domestic market after three years of hype and spin is a $40,000, government subsidized Prius?

How embarrassing.

I thought about it and then I saw the Hyundai Equus for 55k and I said... to hell with the Volt... GM can go to hell to... I hated when they took taxpayers money and borrowed taxpayers to pay back the taxpayers money... they must think americans are idiots to not find out... 40k and not even luxury like a 40k car... i bet the installation to "recharge" will cost several thousands more too... but I am more concerned about replacing the battery because its a matter of when than if... I am not prepared to pay 10k for a new battery...

This thread blows.

The Volt is in another league compared to the ugly box called Prius.

I think it's great you can plug this thing in every evening. If you have only commute a few miles a day, you don't need gas. But that's right, it's an American car..it must be a junk. Why not tap into this country's greatest resource. We need to burn more coal.

Wow..GM took bailout money! Let me ask..Who do you currently bank with?

Hopefully they had enough sense to design the car so that it would not require the average person to buy a transformer or some a large capacity circuit box or circuit breaker to charge it.

Some day we will have awesome cars made with the atom battery. No more oil needed.

Thank you for asking... not a bank that took bailout money... the volt isn't junk it just isn't ready... they haven't made a battery that should last a long time (at least 15 years for me)... someday they will but not today... its nice not to need gas but you know what? You could buy a 20k car (because that is what the volt really is) and never spend the extra $20k for gas either before the car dies... besides that, thats 40 miles on a brand spanking new battery... the year after it be 35... then 32 then 28 then 20... and it will leave you thinking what happened to the 40...

Well any steel bearings are always going to need grease and oil made of something. No grease no go, simple fact of engineering.

What is confirmed renewable energy supply ? Wind and solar are about it, and at this time are not really ready for the AMPS and duty cycle for this car or any, just now. So there will be bio mass burning and coal burning, and no more big power hydro dams built as i hear it.

Bio Mass could be different, but this thread is on a car.

I agree the range is pittifull. No rural dwellers will want one. It's 40+ miles to town. To pop my bubble it needs a range of 200 miles and no gas engine at all, but diesel/bio fuel.
