I guess I was a bit brash when buying my 2010 F-150 less than 6 months ago. I did get a damn good deal but...this new 3.5L Ecoboost engine is really something from what I've been reading. Excellent fuel economy and incredible tow rating makes me wish I would've waited. I'm really curious to hear the public verdict on the Ecoboost when it is finally released for purchase in the coming months. What do you guys think, is the new V6 going to be a winner for Ford?
Wouldn't that the be the same Ecoboost now available in the Taurus SHO and the Flex (option in the Flex)? My dad has a 2010 Flex Ecoboost. He only has about 2K miles on it, but so far he's thoroughly impressed. Even with his heavy right foot he's getting a bit over 20MPG (30 mile commute one-way on freeway, but with typical stop-n-go in the afternoons). Lots of oomph, too, and all on low-octane gas!
It will also return 15-20 percent better mileage, Ford engineers predict. That extrapolates to 16 mpg city/23 highway for the EcoBoost engine, compared with 13 and 18 for the V-8 today.
I average about 15 mpg with my 5.4L 2010 F-150 but from different tests I've seen with the Ecoboost, the reviewers are saving the truck averages about 20-21 mpg in mixed driving. I REALLY like the sound of that, making me think about taking a hit and breaking down to get the Ecoboost when it comes out.
Just make sure you have your duckies all lined up cause there gona be expensive.
From what I've read, the Ecoboost will be a $750 option so I guess it's not terrible. Hoping my year-end bonus check will cover a portion of the difference between my trade in 2010 F-150 and the new 2011 but if not, looks like I'll be sticking with what I have.
Do the Ecoboost engines require premium gasoline, being turbocharged? I haven't heard any mention of it. If they do, it may not be worth the fuel economy benefit.
