Use the factory recommendations, 3k changes is maintained by people selling oil. Every other country in the world go by manufacturers spec, and the cars still run into the 300k+ miles if maintained properly.
Toyota for instance operates with 9k miles intervals and nearly all their vehicles and they just go on forever. And that's even in pretty harsh conditions, like lots of very cold starts during winter for instance.
the 3 months/3000 miles is for cars that are used in severe driving conditions. that means day to day city driving and doing short trips at a time to where the oil does not reach proper operating temperature so that water and other liquids that dont belong in the oil cant burn off. even in the old days the automakers would allow cars that were driven on the highway for long distances to run longer between oil changes. in your case i would go with the factory recommendations for oil changes, probably 7500 or so miles.
