I will be moving cross country and have reserved a Penske 22' truck. I also own a 2001 Silverado ext cab LT 4WD truck. The car haul trailers that Penske, Uhaul, Budget all rent say that my truck will not fit. My WB is 143". Anyone know if it could still squeeze on? The other option is the tow dolly. However, I am concerned about burning up the differential/transmission. I have the on dash electric shift for the 4WD; I can put it into neutral this way but does this simply disengage the rear differential with everything still spinning but not oiled? Do I have to disconnect the driveshaft if I want to pull it on a tow dolly? Please help and thanks in advance.

If you do the dolly you must yank the shaft and seal the transfer case so oil doesn't pour out. Considering the distance towing, I wouldn't do it that way on a bet. Find a bigger trailer. Or maybe hire a driver. Any trailer you get should have working brakes with the tow rig, and be dual axels. If you cheap out on something it is very likely to come back and bite you.

If you hire a driver you will need to pay him on top of feed and lodge him, then fly him one way.

Probably break even to sell the truck and buy one like it where you move to.
There are many things not worth moving, washing machines, dryers, automobiles. Often it does not pay to get attached to the big things.

Depends on which way he is moving, and if he starts in the rust belt ot goes the other way. bringing a rust free vehical to the rust belt makes good sence. Bringing a rusty vehical away from that makes no sence at all.

Drive that truck and put the junk you are planning on putting in that one way rental (that is what ??- $.90/mile plus gas) on U Ship. Someone will bring it out for small change compared to the truck rental.

BTW, the "rust belt" stuff is pure BS. I've bought cars from all over the US and ocean spray and rain is the worst rust cause. A car from coastal California or Florida is worse than one from Ohio. I have a 1993 MB 300TE that is driven all seasons including winter on salted roads, never garaged, and doesn't have a spot of surface rust on it and no scaling rust underneath. However, cars and trucks parked on wet grass or dirt east of the Mississippi, which CA and other western states do not have, get bad rust.

Wilson come to NH and find out what real rust is. I have rebuilt tjhe body onmy 83 tuck 4 times and it is in need now. NH will kill toyotas eats the frame out in 7 years easy unless you care for the frame, rockers and fenders.

Jeeps loose rockers and doors, MBenze loose the same. You can't find a 7+ year old vehical in NH that is rust free. I make good money doing rust work too. I got Photobucket pics of some of these jobs as How To on Saab, Volvo, Jeep, and chevy. BS my Butt!

My 86 van is is rust free and around here that's a big deal. I bought that in Arkansas.
