If it's broken off above the little curl, it's too long to push down into the pan.

Either the dipstick tube or pan will have to come off to remove it. Me, I'd pull the pan.

The diagram which would show this is the cross section of the pan.

Im far from retirement age & i was in the mlitary for only 4 yrs. I just feel older. Anyways....im just leaving it be & getting another dipstick in a wrecking yard later this month. If the metal is still in the tube (which i doubt) ill just push it into the pan with another dipstick. A used dipstick in a wrecking yard shouldnt cost more then 5 bucks (i hope).

So would I. Probably the pan gasket is over tightened and so crushed anyway.

That one bolt on the tube isn't a whole lot of fun, but it can be done with a wrench and some patience.

I was takin the filter off a 2000 Pontiac Grand Prix and it broke how do I get it out
