Car and Driver Blog » 2012 BMW 3-Series Fuel-Economy Ratings Out, 328i Scores 36 MPG Highway

Of course this is with the 8 speed automatic, but count me impressed. And the torque ain't bad at 260 either. Now imagine a slightly smaller version of the same engine in a Z4 or 1 series and maybe we're talking 30+ combined easily.

All this makes my VW 1.8t look very outdated.........

Find a 2011 335d instead!

Tons of torque and I have seen 40 mpg on the highway!

Waiting for the diesel too. Shove that in the upcoming touring model and I'm sold.

I don't understand the diesel appeal. It's not 1995. Almost all gas engines will outlast the body of the vehicle these days.

Drive one....... The torque pulls hard enough to strain your neck after a few hole shots! What is not to love about a fast car that gets 40 mpg!

Not sure the new diesel will be as good as the outgoing one. New one is going to be a 2.0 4 cyl whereas the current one is a 3.0 6......

The BMW 2.0L diesel engine has previously won engine of the year three times (consecutively), great torque and hp with fantastic gas mileage, as far as performance to mpg ratio goes, the 2.0L wins, hands down.

Your 1.8T is outdated.
