Oh come off it, Saint Freaker. It's not like he lied about anything material to the transaction. It's called a negotiating ploy, and you better believe dealerships use similar tactics. So does just about anyone involved in large-ticket transactions, buyer or seller.

I did everything over the phone and spoke to a few dealerships. After several days of this I went in to take delivery..I did have to go in previously to test drive and once to show the car to my wife.

I have a couple of times with USED cars.

Not with new cars. New cars is always a nightmare.

Yup. Dealers know when something sounds too good to be true, they're not going to be ripped off by a customer.

Lied or didn't lie, I bet you $10,000 that the dealer made a profit on that sale.

We just bought two Prius completely through email/phone and from another state... another sales region actually. Gulf State Toyota blows, so after dealing with their b.s. for several weeks, I finally picked up the phone and talked to internet sales at a dealer in california. Easiest car buying experience ever. And even with shipping both cars, we saved a bunch of money compared to buying them here in Texas. We got exactly what we wanted (colors, trim, options, etc), got invoice pricing and less port add-ons. The only extra effort on my part was getting them registered and paying the tax once they got here. It's 2012. There is ZERO reason you need to buy locally.

I bought my BMW used on ebay, using email and phone calls to determine condition. Paid the deposit, then drove up from Baltimore to CT to pick it up and drive it home. THat was in Dec. '06 and the car was great for the last 5+ years.

I bought a BMW wagon and a Ford coupé via email/phone in the UK whilst living in the US.

We flew back to the UK where the BM was waiting at the airport and had my private registration plate on it.

We then drove to where we were staying, picking up the Ford on the way.

Both cars had been inspected, taxed and insured via phone/internet prior to us leaving the US.
