I have had to have mine fixed twice on my 2005 Jeep. I can't remember if they said it was the stabilizer bar or something else, but I PAID twice for them to fix it. They need to recall all Jeeps and do a permanent fix. And they should also admit to and do something about the gas overflow problem.

Death wobble has been around as long as solid front axles and it's not limited to jeeps
Some call every shimmy or vibration DW,

DW will result in the violent shaking of the steering wheel as a result of the front axle oscillating side to side, caused by a flexing, worn or loose track-bar.
Not from ball-joints tie-rods or control-arms or tires.
Loose or worn steering components may bring a bad track bar to light but they are not the cause of DW.

I've experienced DW a few times, and it was cured every time by a new track-bar.

I've even been told by the dealer after experiencing DW that everything was in specs. and they would not be fixing anything under the warranty, as nothing was wrong.
I said, replace it anyway and I'll pay for it.
When I picked it up, there was no charge. and once again the DW went away.

Mine was definitely a death wobble. 50-60 mph, and the thing was shaking so hard I thought here was no way parts weren't going to start breaking off. Definitely not a shimmy or vibration, it was a violent, whole-vehicle shaking.

Gas overflow has been addressed, a TSB was issued a few months ago. My 07 Dodge Durango had the same issue and was fixed for free.

EDIT: Just realized the TSB that I used was only for Durangos and Aspens. I thought I read they addressed some Jeeps as well. Maybe I'm wrong

Really?! I had my Jeep in the shop about a month ago for something else and they said nothing about that.

Unbalanced wheels, bad wheel bearings, bad hubs, bad tie rod ends can all give you the death wobble (including the trac bar) . I've rebuilt many a Jeep front end, most recently a 2001 WJ which had the wobble. It was cured by installing new hubs, which were worn. The rest of the front end was fine.

....Must just be lucky...which I usually am not. 12 Jeeps in various models over the last 32 years(2 new, 10 used)...including one I did a 6" lift on............no death wobble. And for the folks at Consumer Reports (who never gave it a decent rating)...I had one particular Cherokee XJ, that I finally sold after/14ys and.......404,000 miles(NO major repairs).
