I want to polish a couple windshields to get rid of years of micro-scratches from wipers. A couple of questions:

1) In the interim I want to try applying basic car wax to the windows. I have done some research and it seems to work excellent for both mitigating scratches and also serving as a superior alternative to Rain-X. Has anyone here tried this? I think I want to try it out in a small section of the window to see how it goes.

2) What glass polishing products do you recommend? So far it looks like Diamondite works pretty good.

3) What are some complications that you encounter? I have heard of the "funhouse mirror" effect where the glass is overheated and distorted from the buffing procedure. Other than that, what are some major obstacles?

Thanks!
