My registration expired the end of October. I sent payment through the mail a week or two ago and haven't gotten new registration yet. I really need my car for the next few days, since I have an exam 45 minutes away and also drive to the library to study. (and have work after that, but I park in a garage) Can my car be towed for only going a couple days after the expiration? Need advice
most states will give you a month grace period before they will ticket you and it is not a primary offense in most states. What this means they usually have to stop you for some other reason then they can issue a ticket for non registered vehicle.
Now thet you have sent in your payment and if you get caught you can show the court that actually you did register it, you just haven't received the tags
Many states like North carolina will NOT let you register a car if it has not passed the state inspection within 90 days of the time of registration. Call you DMV and ask what the problem is.
Well I have inspection til Sept 2013 so that is not a problem, I'm just gonna have to ride it out and hope that I don't get a ticket or there is a grace period (I am in NJ, so I am looking around)
It is great down here in Texas as we can get our renewals in person at almost any large grocery store, unless you need new plates. Plus they give you a 7 day grace period, but after that you do have to go to the county courthouse or tax assessor's office to get it. And the cops give you the same 7 days before they will ticket you. But since you are in NJ, I'm sure that an expired registration is not at the top of their enforcement list right now.

Not in New Jersey...
One day late and the vehicle is in violation.
If you are caught operating it on the street, the vehicle will be towed by the police and a summons issued.
well I am moving to connecticut soon but I had already sent in the payment so hopefully the MVC had updated the database or whatever and sent it in the mail I can only hope, because I have no other way of getting places
