I could be very wrong here, but if you have a AAA account and let's say you ripped or lost the stickers, I think AAA will just give them to you if you show proof.
I'm glad we don't have the plate stickers anymore. We had many thefts of stickers in Texas from thieves using a razor blade to peel them off when people plastered several stickers on top of each other. Now we have printed 2"x3" tags with your plate number on them that go on the inside of the windshield. Much less theft for sure and the plates look a lot cleaner without the stickers on them.
I live in Alabama and got pulled over yesterday by the police and he said my tag was improperly displayed. He said the month should be on the left side and the year on the right side. I asked him how I could fix this. My new year sticker is coming this month. I asked him if I would get both stickers and he said if I don't to get it fixed. He didn't say how. It sounds like I need to contact the DMV and ask them. He let me go. By the way the sticker for the month on the left says October and it should say January. I don't know how that happened. I was pulled over twice last year and nothing was said about my tag.
LOL...it's actually pretty amazing how many stickers I've seen reversed! Don't try and peel them off, they will only rip. Guessing any Officer will let your parents slide on this one! Next year, you can reverse 'em, of course, you'll have to spring for a new month sticker
Your parents will just explain to the cops "our children did it, and we didn't want to diminish their self esteem. It's like the "World's Greatest Grampa" bumper sticker back there."

If you don't get both, then request a replacement sticker for the month. Then make sure that both stickers are in the correct positions.

Well, that makes your license plate look cleaner, but it messes up your windshield. LOL. Stickers on my windshield drive me nuts. The first thing I do is peel off those oil change stickers that they put on. I would hate to have to have a registration sticker on my windshield.
I'm a solid supporter of Law Enforcement, but cops should have better things to do with their time than stopping someone because the stickers are switched side to side. I mean, both of them are there, it is just that a human made a simple mistake.
It's a single sticker attached to the plate in Florida.
