I am in need of a new ( to me ) used vehicle. I like both the durango and the escalade. I have had a Yukon and Suburbans in the past but just bad luck with those is making me want to go in different direction. Anyone got any reasons why I should go with one over the other or things to be aware of?
Are you sure you want an Escalade if you've had trouble with Yukons and Suburbans?
The Tahoe, Yukon, and Escalade are the same truck. The Suburban, Yukon XL, and Escalade ESV are the larger versions of the same truck.

The interior of the Yukon is dated and looks cheap, I doubt the premium price on the Escalade gets you much better. The Durango on the other hand, esp in Citidel form with the hemi, is very impressive and you get the third row without having to drive a tank.
Ha that's funny.....CRV is a tin can made in Mexico!
I bet the CRV will hold more value than both the other suvs...
Ill also guarantee that theyre 100 times more reliable and efficient.
Im just biased because I think giant SUVs are extremely tacky, especially when theres a little 100lb soccer mom driving one and has not a clue on how to drive it.
Gee, I thought this was a trick question. The Durango is plagued with electrical issues and just lousy engineering. Brakes and front end assembly are far too small for the heft of the truck and maintenance is high. Probably the worst vehicle in its segment by a lot. The Caddy is nice but if you've had issues with the Tahoe, the Caddy isn't going to be much better. Might consider an Expedition with a 4.6. AVOID any 5.4 3V engine in the Expedition as they are a disaster waiting to happen with the lousy cam phasers and 3 piece spark plugs that won't come out.

I believe the spark plug problem with the 5.4 was fixed after the 2007 models.

The Escalade is pretty much the same car as the Suburban. Now, the Durango, at least the new ones, is a different truck. The newer ones are crossovers.
I guess it would depend on budget. If your budget is more limited then the Durango. If not then the Escalade. Where I live plenty of affluent people ride Escalades but probably more drive Denalis since they aren't as blinged out.
Maybe look at a Chevy Captiva, its about the size of a equinox and is basically a Saturn Vue. The fleets are turning them in and you can get a used 2012 for as low as $18,000. Some dealers have them and I saw one on the road last week.
The 5th generation 4Runner finally has an exterior that rivals the 'style' of a luxury SUV for a fraction of the cost. Get it in Limited trim and enjoy all the bells and whistles of a luxury SUV along with a reliable, capable truck.
