Reminds me of the story about the cop who saw a car going by with a 6 year old peering up through the steering wheel, so he pulls it over, and the kid has his 3 year old sister in the passenger seat, taking her for a ride.
COP: You're going to have to come down to the station with me, and wait there until your mother comes and gets you.
KID: She can't.
COP: Why not?
KID: I've got the car.
Chances are he hasn't "graduated" from being a learner , so he should be supervised. He drove it better than I expected him to, though going around a track and going out on the freeway are two different animals. Nevertheless, I think it's a tragedy that a kid like that will be forced to wait 6 years before he can be taught how to drive, when he's perfectly capable of being taught now. That's the sort of potential we lose under these one-size-fits-all laws.
Indeed he did, better than me when I first started driving. I remember driver Ed class the instructor had to hit the brake on his side of the car because I was trying to take a turn too fast. Usually beginner drivers press on the gas too hard or don't brake hard enough. What surprised me most about the video is it looked like he had a friend with him, so dad wasn't even in the car to take over if junior got into trouble.
i came close as an 11 year old to take our rental car, a 73 Plymouth Gran Sedan, yellow with a white vinyl top, for a little ride at the hotel parking lot in Orlando, Fla.. i did ask my dad for the key so i could at least start it up to hear the 360 fire up and open up the hood and see the engine. i did both. no problems. and God what a car!!
