I know most of us do not need this, but here it is, the technology is now available.
While the only advantage I can see it is saving time finding a parking spot (in a crowded parking mall), there are many drivers that do have a problem backing up in parking malls...
I was talking to a buddy last week about how we got our DL's back in '95 and how my test was basically this:
get in car
put on seat belt
start car
drive down the street using blinkers
turn around
park car out in front of DMV
If you didn't have any accidents, you were passed.
There was no parking requirement.
Test took less than 5 minutes.
I thought that parking, especially parallel parking, is a fundamental driving skill but I guess I was wrong. Do the youngsters these days even know how to parallel park?

I'm 21, and parallel park nearly daily at school. But maybe I'm the exception.
While new technology like this is pretty cool, it's one step closer to "losing" control of our cars. If I wanted to sit on my ass and be driven to my destination, I'd take the bus. Still, I know a few people who could benefit from this...
It's a freaken car not a spaceship. This is another one of those useless features designed to impress dullards with no driving abilty.
Ehh I'm one of those who can't parallel park to save his life. I find these type of features useful and I imagine quite a few others would agree with me. My parents had the parking assist on their Lexus and it worked pretty slick, I imagine the systems are even more improved since then.

Its funny you say that - cars are probably the most complex machines most people ever interact with. Modern cars have more computers and hundreds of times the computing power of the Orbiter and early spaceships!

It's not that hard to parallel park. I think everyone should be given a 1976 Caddy Eldo for the first two years of driving so they can figure it out.
