The survivors said the driver "didn't do anything" ... he may have froze or was in shock.

For a fire this intense, I think a highly flammable liquid or gas would need to be continuously "spraying". i.e. pressurized fuel which is pressurized by the fuel pump running.

One of the surviving women disagrees with HIM pulling them out. She says he just got out of the car and they managed to squeeze through the partition on tneir own. He says he pulled them out.
As someone pointed out, no auto manufacturer "makes" limos. They are modified after market by several different companies. Since they are not manufacturing vehicles, but only modifying existing, certified cars, they are not required to adhere to the same standards auto manufactures are. There have been crash tests for limos, but it's not something done every year a new model of car is released by the manufacturer. In short, it's most likely the caused by someone's butcher job of making the limo, something that was just waiting to happen.

There are several companies that perform these "stretches" and they typically do all the work under one roof... frame/chassis/body work, electrical, upholstery, etc. The quality from company to company can be vastly different, "you get what you pay for" is completely relevant in this business. Many of the companies, which are based in California, are essentially glorified chop shops entirely comprised of illegals working for next to nothing. In short... it doesn't surprise me that one of these went up in flames, likely due to poor workmanship. There is quite a bit of amperage running to the back of these kind of vehicles to power all of the auxiliary systems, especially in warm weather.

True, but it seems everyone is singling him out since he was the driver he must have some inherent responsibility to rescue everyone from disaster. If it was too dangerous, he shouldn't have done it.

The driver said he thought the women were asking if they could smoke at first. I'm guessing the radio was probably playing at the time.
