Are there any 2013/2014 Chrysler, GM or Ford vehicle platforms that were designed in the USA? It seems like all of the latest models made by American car companies were designed by their overseas divisions in Europe, Asia or Australia or through partnerships with foreign car companies.
That's about right, though they do design their trucks here, which are pretty successful. Interestingly enough, while Ford and Chrysler have their European studios design their cars, and GM seems to have Daewoo or Holden do it, Honda, Toyota, Hyundai, and other Asian manufacturers design a lot of their cars in the US.
Of course, I personally think Toyota hired the old Buick and Oldsmobile design departments, but the others tend to be pretty good cars.
You should look up the difference between a styling studio and engineering a complete car platform. This stuff isn't designed with your handy dandy art degree.
Isn't it great that some high schools now give kids their own laptop, and unlimited access to the internet during school hours?
some of the most popular vehicles in the world (thats right, trucks are extremely popular) are designed and built right here in the USA.
Agreed. Unfortunately, a truck is not something for which I am in the market.

and whats wrong with the two remaining (large) American car companies using their global resources when it comes to producing multiple vehicle platforms
Because a lot of people have trumpeted the return of the American auto industry. And yet, we can't seem to produce any home-grown domestic platform designs. It's hard for me to get excited about buying an American car when my dollars are used to outsource design to other countries.

BTW, Tesla is an American car company that I believe does all or most of its designing in America...
No it is not. Toyota is a partner, who has committed to invest $50M in the future. Tesla also paid $42M to Toyota to buy the California plant Toyota once operated with GM.

No, it isn't. Not even close. Yes, there is some tech sharing, but that's about the extent of it. Unless you can produce credible data that proves it, I'd say you're talking out your ass.

Translation: Tesla is owned by Toyota. If you think Toyota has no say in what Telsa is doing you're dreaming.

They actually dont at all.. no more than they do with any other supplier. Thats all Toyota sees for them at this point. A supplier for their EV Rav4. No wheres near any kind of ownership role. And thats not from reading web stories, thats from working for Toyota R&D on and off for many years.
