Hello-All
I have a 2001 B-3000 dual-sport truck (115K) while driving today it suddenly started sputtering like it
had water in the gas, also the check engine light came on. I put a can of heet in it, and still doing it.
Any of ya fine people know of anything else I could check myself before taking it to the shop?
Thanks a ton!

you might start with the fuel filter, they can get clogged and cause the very problem you have. clogged injectors can also be an issue as well as a clogged fuel line.

How about taking a look at the spark plugs first.

Tip when buying plugs: get cheapest plugs that your car requires.

If you're getting a check engine light, plug in a code reader to see what codes it is throwing. Otherwise it is best guess. If you have codes finding and fixing the poblem becomes a lot easier. Do that before you start throwing parts at the problem and hoping for a fix.

I put the code reader on it, and it showed cylinder #5 was the problem.
Relaced all the plugs, problem solved! Thanks for all the great advice, ya-all probably
saved me a good chunk of cash.

Because the cheap plugs are what your cars ignition system was designed for. Its really misinformation to call them the cheap ones. Its like how mostly everyone gets 87 octane fuel instead of premium, UNLESS your car requires it

When you buy the good plugs, its usually some multiple tip design/metal that people think will be better. In reality, the multiple tip plug provides more resistance, that means more power use. So your making the ignition work harder to get the same spark across the plug. The bottom line plugs that are recommended for your car, are the ones that the engine was really designed for.

So when you use the "best" plugs, sometimes thats when the engine faults and poor performance issues will start to show. The cheap plugs will just eliminate that possibility in the diagnosis.

Can't go wrong with cheap copper or platinum plugs.

I usually swap copper champion or autolite into whatever vehicle I have.

Autolite makes the ford OEM sparkplugs.

Expensive spark plugs make your car perform faster and get better mileage by lightening your wallet.
