I'm trying to decide between Iridium and Double Platinum plugs. The OEM ones are Double Platinum, which are better? They are both about the same price.

When in doubt, go OEM.

Platinums generally last longer, especially in turbo or supercharged cars. They can also be gapped. Iridiums are not supposed to be gapped, they come pre gapped and changing the gap can damage the tip of the electrode. They can spark across a greater distance under greater cylinder pressures though, so for all out performance, Iridium has the edge.

When it comes to spark plugs I always go OEM, especially if it was working just fine.

Go with OEM. They engineered an engine to run a certain type of plug, so use it. The exception, you start doing massive performance mods to the engine where a hotter or different plug is warranted. But for 99.9% of the cars on the road, OEM is the way to go.

Iridium. I also gapped them. You just need to know what you doing. 100 000 miles and they WILL last and work that long, as far as combustion chambers are sealed tight and nothing builds up on them.
All that "go OEM" only thing, though I see logic in it, but I have done otherwise so many times without any issues, I trust is as much as I trust 3000 miles oil changes for new cars.

You've obviously not done your own "special blend" of spark plugs in very many engines, or you would have run into problems.

What car and application?

Too broad of a question for a blanket statement. I would suggest OEM, but there are applications i would suggest Iridium.

Maybe he needs it for all the acetone he runs through his engines.
