I would not buy a car with this many known needs from a dealer. Like the rest of the guys, I would say if you are OK with DIY the trans, timing belt, etc. a car like this could be a winner if it's in good shape otherwise. You would end up with a car with new clutch and new timing belt, etc. ready to drive for 50-90K miles with minimal maintenance. You would need to be OK with the time all this work is going to take, and you would need at the very least a carport that you can monopolize for 3 weeks worth of weekends.
