I actually think it was. I've never heard of any other car that did that besides the Corvette.
Late model GTOs have it. It's called CAGS.

On the Jeep 4.0 - yeah, it has some NVH issues, but in a Jeep I doubt many owners care. It's not exactly musclebound, but it's not weak either. It will move the regular Cherokee right down the road.
On GTOs, the CAGS is disabled by putting a 39 cent resistor into a plug on the tranny. Or you can buy the $20 part with a resistor in it. I saw on a forum where something is done on the Vette transaxle to eliminate CAGS.
It's never an issue for me. The slightest throttle pressure and CAGS turns off.
Get the GT500 and enjoy all 662HP/631lb-ft of it. It looks sweet, just get over it's a Ford. It's the fastest convertible with an usable back seat. 0-60 in 3.5 and 1/4 in the high 11's...giggity! Smokin' Porches, Corvettes, and other sports cars with it would be a hoot.
I love that color combo. My M3 is Le Mans Blue with a black interior.

You might not "smoke" anything but your own tires.....I drove my buddy's GT500 and while it was very fast, traction is an issue for sure. The car magazines even found the Camaro ZL1 was faster with less HP because it hooked up better.
I think the 420 HP Mustang 5.0 GT is probably the end of the usable HP limits of that platform. When you are at the track you see all the new guys with their brand new Mustangs (traction control off of course) jump the light and when they jump sideways in 2nd gear they suddenly realize they got too much power, not enough experience!
The OP specifically mentioned in the thread title that he wanted a, "4 seat convertible with 8+ cylinder engine & manual transmission". So, assuming that he wants a car with a
V-10, that would seem to eliminate everything except the Dodge Viper, the Lamborghini Gallardo, and the Audi R8. However, I think (correct me if I am wrong), that those cars are only 2-seaters.
In any event...Why are people recommending cars with Turbo V-6 engines and with V-8s when the OP clearly stated that he wants 8+ cylinders?
What about a Porsche 997.1 or 997.2 turbo cab manual? The .2 has 500 hp and 500 ft/lbs torque. I've seen a mom get into the backseat of a 997.1 and her high school age son get into front seat with dad driving...
