I will continue to buy Goodyear tires with 8 plants in the US, and 2 in Canada (ehh), and keep my money with a corporation based here where the profits stay here, and executive bonus money. I will not support a foreign invasion to bilk money from Americans.
In the global nature of business today, that's quite an outdated view.
Especially considering the other side of things where American companies rely on foreign buyers also.
Quality suffers without competition.
That being said, Goodyear is among my favorite tire brands. But it shares space with foreign brands...
"Docile" is one word for it. I might use "competitive." Just because they don't want to hassle with unions and choose to set up shop in a state that aggressively courts industry, that doesn't say anything about the workforce. I have nothing against the unions; but if someone is willing to do the job for less money, in the same country, closer to your buyers, without hassling with the unions, why wouldn't you go to the south? In other news, my brother who autocrosses speaks the world of Hankook Tires.

Exactly. I mean how dare they try to open up a plant here in the US and bring in 1800 jobs. I mean where does this corporation get off doing such a despicable thing.

Also, tire companies have merged. Firestone is together with Bridgestone. Michelin acquired Uniroyal and Goodrich. So it's hard to say who owns what and where is it produced - I know that Michelin tires are manufactured in the US despite it being a French brand.
I purchased Kuhmo's for a previous car, and have OE Nexen's on my current car. The Kuhmo's were only fair, the Nexen's are absolutely sh*t. Just garbage. I'll stay away from the Hankook family of tires, thanks.
I have a set of Hankook V12 performance tires and they are very good. Not the best, but good bang for your buck when it comes to a good summer performance tire.
The OEM Hankook Optimo H431 tires that came on my '12 Sonata Turbo are the worst tire I've ever owned. I'll never buy a Hankook again.
The reviews on tirerack are funny..."Won't even recommend these to my ex wife!" lol
