My 97 dodge dakota just got a new starter put in so now the electrical system died on me today. So Its really odd not sure how to fix this. The Lights dont work or the horn but I can use the blinker lights but nothing else on the dash the security system doesnt work either. So anybody know what this could be the fuse or something? Oh it wont start either.

Lemmie guess. Btw, did you DIY this?
Anyway, someone shortened most of the electrical system during install. Happens. All the best.

It's east to short out something when replacing any part that involves wiring. Hopefully it's just a blown fuse. They are well labeled, start with those identified as the things that don't work. I hope he had the battery disconnected while installing the new starter. Fuses usually can protect but I have seen cases of wiring harnesses melted together from shorts.

Check under the hood. There is a main fuse panel. With this many accessories not working you probably popped one more of the main fuses.
You should always disconnect the battery when you're working on replacing electrical components

When I worked at a Dodge dealership the body control module was a very popular item to go bad and cause all kinds of electrical issues. They called the module I think a body/time controller I believe. But that might be the issue if you can not find anything else like a fuse or something wrong with the wiring.

Possible the original problem was not diagnosed correctly (just guessing by throwing parts at the problem) and in fact the problem is with the alternator or charging system.

Test the battery to see if it has a full charge. If not, charge it.

Then see if it starts and everything works ok - then test alternator with a voltmeter.

If you do not know how to do those tests, take it to a mechanic.

Sounds like a fusible link was burned up. Like was said above, disconnect the battery before electrical repairs, ESPECIALLY when replacing the starter motor.

You have a fuse blown, or a fusible link blown. Fixing it should be fairly simple, but if it's a fusible link, it might be kind of tough to track it down.

It's easy to fix shortened wires, all you need is a wire stretcher!
