Yep. I paid less, like $8, when I had 3rd key made for my '03 F150.

The new ones (2014 at least) have a feature called MyKey, which programs it with a minimum of what you did in the '03 (insert one key, turn to on, etc.).

There's about 15 different resistance values for the VATS keys. I can reprogram your memcal and eliminate half, but you'll still need to ground the starter enable relay.

This may actually be a better option.

How to bypass the VATS system in a late model GM vehicle

This should give you some insight into what can be done, so any key can be used.

I duplicated the ignition chip key at a hardware store for about $40. The car came with two remote fobs which I guess would have been more expensive to replace. This was a '99 car so that was some time ago. Interestingly, the spare pass key the dealer gave me in a little holder never opened the door and seemed to be for a different vehicle.
Those fobs still worked with the original batteries in them after 15 years, BTW.

About $50 at Walmart. They will clone the info from your old key to the new key.

I didn't realize that Walmart is able to cut car keys with a chip in them. I bought a 2009 Toyota Corolla back in January and it only had one key. I was at Walmart this morning and would have had this done had I known. Thanks for the information, though. I'll be sure to check them out next time I'm there.

With Ford PATS I can just buy a key blank online.

The hard part is getting the key cut. Lowes, Home Depot will chase you out with firearms if you ask about it. I don't know why, but they get realllllllllllll upset.

Buy the key off retable online dealer, Ebay is ok but can have some cheap Chinese knocks offs. But If its a spare key who cares if its a knock off.
Take the key to a local Locksmith to have them program your new key to the car.
Honda dealer wanted 275.00 per key to program my car, 2004 Honda Accord.
Bought keys from some web sight (2 keys for $45) and the locksmith charge me 75.00 to cut and program both keys.
125.00 for 2 brand new keys and i didn't give the Stealership one red cent

If you have TWO keys, it's very easy to program a 3rd key. A lot of car owners manuals detail the process as well, or you can find videos on youtube.

However, if you have only ONE key, the method doesn't work. It's a security precaution to keep someone who has your key (tire shop, mechanic, valet) from making a quick copy, and then stealing the car at a later date.

When you have ONE key, you need to go to the dealer, or find a locksmoth who can do RFID chipped key systems. They are usually much cheaper.

My advice, if you have two keys now, look into how to make a 3rd key. You can usually buy a key cheap off ebay, cut it at walmart to match the other two, and then program it yourself. But like I said, this only works if oyu have two keys already programmed to the car.

Having a transponder key cut at somewhere else other than the dealer is going to
1) Ruin your car's computer
2) Kill your firstborn child
3) Steal your kidneys
4) Cause you to have a multi-trillion dollar lawsuit against Walmart/Lowes/Home Depot ...
