So, few dealerships here have any 2014 Toyota Priuses left and they are really pushing to get rid of the remaining ones.
One local dealership has 3 Prius IIIs, all identically equipped (even down to the color). They've all been on the lot 6-7 months. They're all priced the exact same: $28,945.
The dealer is running a special where they take $5500 off MSRP. So the price drops to $23,445 before you add in the $1500 in extras the dealer added. Shuffle around title fees, taxes, etc. and throw in $5k for my trade-in and the out-the-door price comes to $20,103 that I'd have to finance (and throw a few thou on the fire too).
I'm thinking this is a pretty good deal, but I'm also hoping to get them down further on the car and up more on my trade-in.
My trade-in is a 7 year-old Sonata with some problems but it has only 56k miles on it. I was up-front about its collision history because if they pulled a Carfax on it, they'd find it anyway.
Try taking the Sonata to carmax and see what they offer to purchase the vehicle for. Often time it's higher and you don't have to buy from them. They offered 3.5k more to an friend with an VW CC then an other dealer; about as high as private offers that never went through (loose a bit of sales tax, savings). Had an pretty bad accident when he first got the car and ended up with some runs in the paint... But maybe they offer you $6,500, and you have you that as an negotiation point on the trade.
Check to see if local dealers have any left overs within 3-500 miles, email them and see what numbers they come up with,

No local dealers have a 2014 Prius III except this one. I checked.
I took the car to Carmax this morning and they offered $500 less than the dealership did.
At my shop, we would run about $200 typically for window tint (LLumar) which is also what dealers typically charge around here. I don't see door guards worth $1,300... Personally, the deal would seem good if they axe this. $5,500 off last year model, with probably a few hundred miles of test drives by now, competitive trade offer, and financing that beats my banks offer. I would be satisfied with the transaction.

Odometer says 26 miles. Best financing they can do, according to the fellow I spoke with, is 2.7% which is what my bank is offering.
For 20k that is a good deal IMO, but then again, I'm used to driving cars no less than 42k.
