I posted earlier that i was looking for an SUV that would fit me (6'5" 280) and that I could use to get landscaping mulch and transport my kids and their gear back and forth to college. Well folks, for the money that I want to spend, I have it narrowed down to the following SUV's

2007-2008 Lexus RX350 around the 60,000 mile range.
2011 Mazda CX-9 around the 30,000 range
2011-2012 Chevy Traverse LT around the 20-30,000 range
2011-2012 Hyundai Veracruz round 30,000 miles

Saw many other SUV's and many didn't fit me while the Suburbans and such were too big and somewhat overkill for what i want to do with it.

What would be your recommendations?

The Traverse is victim to some of the current GM recalls. I'd personally avoid it right now.

I'd recommend the CX-9 out of the options you listed. The RX-350 is a good choice, but could be more expensive to fix if something goes wrong.

The Lexus and the Mazda will hold their resale value better than the others, if that's a factor for you.

Three of your choices are years newer with half the mileage. That would play heavily for me. That said, they are also in my eyes not particularly impressive either. I might lean CX-9 among this group to take advantage of the newer age and lower mileage...

6'5'' you won't fit comfortably into RX350, as we have RX300 and it's same car inside. For long haul it's way too small.
Appeal to it is it's made in Japan, and ours been super reliable, as result.
I can NOT recommend anything from Mazda. Tired explaining why. Just had another proof yesterday. Simply don't.
No for domestics. Quick look around will give you tons of reasons.
There's Honda Pilot. Acura MDX is one of the most reliable vehicles made.
Ever considered Ridgeline? I am quite happy with mine. Epitome to practicality.
Yes, I am 6'5 too, btw. And drive a lot.

I agree you should look at the Ridgeline. Great combination for carrying people and cargo. Very reliable with strong safety ratings.

I hate carrying things like mulch inside my vehicle. That's why a crew cab short bed truck might be a very good thing to consider.

The MDX or Pilot would be my choices as well; the former has been the gold standard for SUVs from its inception (go read the reviews on the newest one), but it also use premium fuel, in which case I'd go for the Pilot.

There was a time when I'd try to sway you to the Ford Flex as I'm also in the 'tall guy' club, but ours has been too much of a headache lately. And everytime I jump on a Ford Flex forum and read some of the nightmares that others are experiencing, it just raises my blood pressure that much more.

So, uhm, yeah. DON'T get a Flex. Not that it was on your list.

Mike
