Why are you doing this?

Not damage exactly but you're not letting the engine warm up enough to get rid of moisture and deposits in the oil mainly or really lubricate the moving parts. Also, expect muffler rot since moisture will collect in it and not evaporate.

it would increase wear and tear but the car is pretty new with newer components so it won't cause extreme damage right away. and I agree with above poster why? are you away from the car and just having someone run it? it might be better to just keep it off unless you are starting it long enough to get to operating temps

I think this is more likely to cause shortened battery life than any engine damage. Whenever I drive to the grocery store which is less than a mile I usually drive around for ten minutes just to help recharge the battery.

Why do this?

If the car needs to sit, not starting the engine would be better than starting it up and not letting it warm up properly.

Use a trickle charger on the battery if that is your concern

Bad idea, if you are going to run it at least let it go for fifteen minutes. In the cold the oil gets thick and need time to circulate through the engine. All those one minute fire ups and shut downs could leave your top end dry and weary. (this means an early demise later)

Not to mention short start ups could cause condensation to build up in the exhaust and begin to corrode it internally.

I'm guessing the OP needs to pick up his kid from school and doesn't want to walk 1/3 mile in the winter. I used to do this all the time, except it was even shorter than 1/3 mile to my kids elementary school.

You managed to pick your kids up from school in a minute? I couldn't even do that where I live, and it's half a block to the elementary school. Kind of annoying living that close, really. Sounds more like driving down a (longish) driveway to get the mail to me.

Probably backs out the driveway, across the street to the takeout pizza place. Then puts it into drive to get back into driveway.
