Looking at getting a midsize to larger used suv. Third row and 4x4 is required. I have a short list of Suvs that have made the final cut. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

2007-2008 expedition
2008 jeep commander limited with 5.7 hemi
2007 durango with 5.7 hemi
2006 toyota sequoia 4x4

What kind of mileage on motor and trans should i expect before needing to replace or rebuild? Going from a diesel to a gasoline motor is new territory.

What sort of terrain do you plan to drive over?

telling you now, the expedition in question, and the durango in question are not capable at offroad anything. First gen either of those, you'd want.

The 4.7 in the Toyota is a very good engine, just make sure the timing belt (and water pump) was replaced on schedule. I've seen many of them approaching the 300k mark.

I would go with the Sequoia, because as stated above the 4.7 engine is excellent, and is used in several products, including the previous generation Land Cruiser and Lexus LX.

I borrowed a Commander with a Hemi once. What a dreadful vehicle. Handled like crap. Poor visibility and close to zero cargo space with the 3rd row up.

I'd agree on the Durango, but what makes you think the Expedition isn't capable? I took our 2005 Expedition hunting up some nasty and muddy backroads frequently and it never left me stranded. It's as capable as the 4x4 F150.

Eh..... I'd talk with some Toyota techs... they have a few quirks. I'm friends with the service manager at our local Toyota dealership and he recommends the 5.7 but won't recommend the 4.7 to anyone.

I would stick with the Sequoia and Expedition if you actually need the third row. It's an afterthought in the others and kills the cargo space.

I would also suggest you add a late model Chevy Suburban and/or GMC Yukon to your list OP
