I like to call those who let everyone cut in front of them enablers. This drives me nuts, this morning I was on my way to work and the guy in front of me slowed down everytime someone wanted to get over so that they could merge in. I see this everyday, I leave at the same time so I see many of the same cars on the road and their behavior is the same everyday. At one point there is an entrance lane to merge onto the highway, there is usually not that many cars in this lane but everyday there is an older mini van that blows by these cars in the non turn lane, puts his blinker on and waits for someone to let him in and low and behold someone always does. These enablers are the reason why people try to cut in the first place, in fact these people who try to cut in are the reason the traffic is backed up in the first place. If everyone was in the lane they are supposed to be in then traffic would flow. If you miss your turn because you weren't in the correct lane to begin with take the next one, or turn around, don't mess up traffic in both lanes.

Sounds like my 80 y/o FIL in his little Prius.....NYC Driver most of his life....no turn signals though, he likes the element of surprise. He asked me to follow him in a rented Cargo Van to pick up furniture.....he's just zippin' along, in and out of traffic, then scolded me when I said I couldn't keep up.....big difference in where you can fit that Prius, and where you can fit a Cargo Van when dealing with NYC traffic

^ Ppl in NYC don't care whether or not the whole car will fit. As long as you can stick your nose in, you're in lol

OP, I think hood-mounted machine guns would solve your issues.

Actually people who stop and let multiple cars in think they are being courteous to those cars, HOWEVER they are being rude to the cars in line behind them!

As a rule I don't let in "cheaters", but when it is fair play to let a car in, one is the limit.

why are people so tense these days when driving? where has the courtesy gone these days? letting one or two people cut in is no big deal, you lose what, 5 seconds?

Agreed. Especially on highway mergers. Sometimes things just back up. Stop being an arse

We are talking big city freeways here [rush hour]...

And you have slow going traffic - say 25 / 30 mph. And 15 on-ramps ahead of you before you finally get to work. So if people at all those on-ramps are letting in a stream of cars, that keeps the cars further back from moving.

So not just one or two cars, rather hundreds of cars if you total up all the on-ramps up ahead.

This is not a problem for smaller cities.
