Unfortunately, I no longer have a pickup truck, so anything I catch will have to go inside the car.

What's the best way to keep the inside of the car from picking up a fishy smell? I'm thinking that an insulated cooler might be the best way. Any fisherman here have any suggestions?

you could always rent a PU truck from Budget or U-Haul and keep your Car clean and smelling nice

Yes, a cooler with a latch to keep it tightly closed. Even with a pickup truck I prefer to keep them in one, inside the cab in summer when it's hot in the back of the truck. Of course, if the car has a trunk, you can put it there.

Buy a bag of charcoal briquettes and just open the top of it while your fish are in the cooler, it will absorb all odors

As mentioned, keep your fish on ice and in a sealed cooler.

Not mentioned so I'll toss it out is to make sure your gear and clothing are cleaned or put in plastic bags or some other setup.

I always thought a more serious problem was keeping the car from smelling like bait, which was often forgotten and left in the car. Especially catfish bait, a prepared product that was sold in glass jars and had the most foul odor on earth.

My dad bought a fishing car, so my mom wouldn't have to endure the smells in "her" car. But I never noticed them. And also so he wouldn't have to worry about the good family car sinking into the lake while ice fishing, which was a considerable hazard.
