Of brand new trucks currently available in the US, which is the cheapest? Any make, model or configuration?
Just want something to haul some stuff around in.
Options (if any) that might qualify this a bit: a/c, automatic, V6 engine. That is all.
Can someone tell me which it is? I'm talking about list price minus any widely available discount, not "the best deal I ever heard my brother-in-law negotiate somewhere."
Thanks.
Nissan Frontier starts at about 18k.. I think that's pretty much the lowest cost one out there now. Tacoma is $22k, Colorado is about $20k.. I can't think of anyone else who still has a light truck.
Your full sizes all tend to start around the $25k range.
You can find base V6 2WD Silverado/Sierra, F150's and Ram 1500's in the 18K-19K Range OP or look for Fleet trucks that the dealer order too many and they have a few brand new ones leftover in stock on the lot as dealer specials since fleet trucks might have a bit better trim or come with a better engine option or with 4-wheel drive.
also Op would wait till the end op the year model blow out on 2015' and even some left over 2014 model trucks to make room for the 2016's would suggest late November and December would be the best time to be looking for these type of discounts/deals.
A friend is in search of a new/used GM pickup and he has been shocked at the prices. He saw a GMC the other day with a MSRP of $71,000 !! That is house money in places and the monthly is a mortgage!
Decent used trucks are pricey around here. He wants a basic truck much like the OP wants but there are few out there.
I agree with GTOlover if you can find a leftover that has what you want and you are not too picky for colour that would be the best way to go. When I sold trucks we had leftovers now and again and the incentives were huge. The dealer was willing to take big losses on them to get them off the books.

Thanks, I'll keep my eyes open. It does seem as if "small" pickups aren't any cheaper than full size, plain work trucks, these days.

Looking at TrueCar, a base 2WD regular cab V6 Silverado with no additional accessories or options, has an MSRP of $27,815. They show an "average" negotiated price of $24,439, and $23,231 would be an "exceptional" price. Not sure how you could get that down to $18K-$19K, as base models with no options/accessories usually have the least mark-up from invoice.
As you say, maybe find a leftover prior-year model somewhere, (but it's getting late in the year to find new 2014s), or maybe wait until the end of December to strike a good deal on a 2015. Still not sure about $18K-$19K, though. You would probably have to be ordering in fleet quantities to get that kind of unit pricing.
Your best bet is on model changeover years. You could get some great deals on the 2014 F-150's because the 2015 is entirely new. Now, not so many deals.
I'd wait until towards year end and the dealerships will have stock, want to make their numbers, and they'll have inventory so that trades that made too much money can lease a vehicle to lower their tax burden.
What is it that you want to haul? If it's not bulk items like dirt or gravel, things like a Ford Transit Connect or a Ram Tradesman can be had for a pretty good deal.
26,940 sticker bought for 19,850 on a new 2014 C1500. Couldn't find many of those nor any that were any cheaper, so I pulled the trigger. Should last a long time (Chevy was the only brand I found that had an engine that I'd ever heard of before). When it comes to longevity, I'm not a big fan of the totally new and innovative.

Over Nissans world renowned VQ V6 engines in the Frontier? I've seen some with 200k+miles on them.
